LEPI shoe factory, method, order and optimization for the management of lasts in production thanks to the new vertical warehouses.

The

The LEPI shoe factory founded in 1977 by the Piervincenzi family has become a Made in Italy reference in the world for the production of children’s shoes of major brands.

Our company has always believed in the improvement and continuous evolution of processes. For this reason, faced with the need to reorganize production, it decided to rely on Modula SpA with the aim of acquiring new generation vertical warehouses for the management of the “shoe last” in production, the starting point for the creation shoes.

The values that have always identified the LEPI company are: quality control throughout the production cycle, reducing product non-conformities, efficiency in certain production times and compliance with delivery times and the expertise of more than 45 years of history in the development of samples and for the industrialization of the product.

With the installation of these new vertical warehouses for managing lasts, we wanted to optimize the times and methods of carrying out the initial phase of the production process of our children’s footwear, as well as the physical spaces within the company.

The advantage of vertical warehouses.

Vertical warehouses are automatic systems for the storage and handling of materials, in our case for shoe lasts, which develop their capacity in height, with minimum floor space, allowing us to save up to 90% of indoor space inside the laboratory. Compared to traditional systems, the vertical warehouses supply according to the “materials to person” principle: the operator technician sends and checks the picking/deposit lists by a simplified touch interface on the machine and receives the tray containing the shoe lasts at the work, where he carries out, comfortably and in total safety, withdrawals or deposits. Through this automatic storage system we have also made it possible to improve the normal forms recovery activities, the operator is in fact able to recover the product in a much simpler, more precise and faster way.

What are the benefits of this automated vertical warehouse system?

  • • Reduce floor space, making the most of storage density
  • • Quick access to materials and reduction of waiting times
  • • Accurate identification and traceability of stored products
  • • Easily integrates into business flow and communicates with all ERP systems
  • • Track picking operations identifying who does them and controlling every access
  • • Protection of goods from external agents (dust, humidity, UV rays, etc.)
  • • High operating ergonomics, safety and comfort for the operators
  • • Can be made inside or outside the warehouse
Operational continuity and maximum flexibility for the LEPI shoe factory, through the use of vertical warehouses for the management of the shoe lasts in production.

The implementation of these new vertical warehouses was made possible thanks to the resources allocated by the Marche Region to make easy the digital transition by facilitating investments in 4.0 technologies.

The Marche Region has strongly wanted to implement this tender “Interventions in favor of the digital transformation of companies towards enterprise 4.0”, assessing that the use of new digital technologies is becoming of fundamental importance in the current phase of recovery from the negative effects of the pandemic of Covid-19, as it will allow companies to reorganize and restructure themselves, encouraging the digital transition process, increasing the flexibility of production processes and at the same time reducing general costs, in order to restart private investments heavily penalized in recent years.
